How the quiz works
The Socialist Quiz is a free, 10-question quiz about how the economy should be organised. Here's exactly what it asks, how it scores you, and what it can't tell you.
What it asks
Each question has four answers. The 10 questions are:
- Who should own major industries like healthcare, energy, and transportation?
- How should wealth be distributed in society?
- What is the ideal role of government in the economy?
- How should essential services like healthcare and education be provided?
- What should be the relationship between workers and business owners?
- What should happen to profits generated by businesses?
- How should workplace decisions be made?
- What should be the role of competition in the economy?
- How should economic decisions be made?
- What is the ideal approach to unemployment?
How it scores you
Every answer awards between 0 and 10 points to each of three ideologies — socialist, capitalist and communist. Your points are added up across all questions, and each ideology's share of your total becomes your percentage. Your headline result is whichever ideology scores highest.
Example — “Who should own major industries like healthcare, energy, and transportation?”
| Answer | Socialist | Capitalist | Communist |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private companies operating in competitive markets | 0 | 10 | 0 |
| A mix of private and public ownership with strong regulation | 7 | 4 | 3 |
| Worker cooperatives or community ownership | 10 | 0 | 5 |
| The state, with centralized planning and control | 3 | 0 | 10 |
The 10 political archetypes
Your percentages also place you in one of 10 archetypes, which describe your mix more precisely than the headline alone — for example, someone who scores 47% communist and 41% socialist is a Marxist Socialist.

What it can't tell you
- It covers economic views only — not social issues such as immigration, abortion or civil liberties.
- Four fixed answers per question can't capture every nuance of your views.
- The labels are simplifications of rich, contested traditions; treat your result as a starting point, not a verdict.
- It's an educational tool, not a scientific or psychological assessment.
